Traveling in Hubei I visited a gallery of stone carvings. I entered the hall of "Great People", as perceived by the Chinese.

Their idea of 'Great People" includes the below scoundrels.

Hitler

Stalin

Petain

And, that, "Troublesome Priest".

This is a sign on a toilet door of a train carriage. What they're trying to say is don't use the toilets when the train is in the station. What it looks like is, "Don't occupy the stables".

This is a monk pouring 'blessed' water into a bottle. Drink this and you'll never get sick again.

Dried Eggplant

I think they mean "No Naked Flames".

This woman cooks chips in the street, and they're SUPERB!

Their "Dob-in-a-mate" scheme.

They're determined, if nothing else.

This guy is packing soil around the smaller shoots to generate roots. He'll then cut the shoots off and plant the new seedlings.

Limestone 'Forest'.

Great setting for a crowd - if you like crowds, that is.

The taxi driver is taking us out of town, so he must report his movements to the police.

Zheng He's home in Yunnan. Zheng He was (literally) a ball-less wonder. He was an admiral eunich who organised long sea voyages, perhaps to Australia and even Europe.

Our taxi driver played MahJong whilst he waited for us. I'm not sure if he reported his gambling to the police.

Practicing for when he's a young man, perhaps. One sees a lot of this in China. (One sees many men doing this in South Korea.)

Someone who doesn't realise the camera can see him. He wouldn't be doing this if he knew people were able to see him - and he's not even South Korean, either.

The train attendant earns extra cash selling goods to travelers.

Outdoor restaurant.

I think it is a "One Day Trip".

City wall in Dali, looking west.

City wall looking east. It has been appropriated as a garden by the locals.

Houses on the city wall.

Tied cloth for tie-dyeing.

Ordering dishes at a restaurant.

Butcher's Shop.

The skin of the beast is sitting on the drain grate.

Cobbled Streets

Three Pagodas in Dali.

They are leaning - because they're all old.

Graves on a hillside. We'd build there to catch the view.

City of Dali.

Local butcher.

A funeral.
