I visited Lin Biao's home village last weekend.
Lin Biao was Mao's henchman. His only saving grace was that he tried to kill 'The Great Mongrel' [Mao] when he thought him too cruel. [If your henchman thinks you're too cruel, then you must be EXTREMELY cruel.
Lin was betrayed by his daughter, who informed the authorities. Lin flew to Russia, but his aeroplane crashed in Mongolia somwhere.
The turn off to his village.
This man is laying out his rice to dry. He will burn the straw.
The cart will help seperate the grain from the stalks.
An old threshing machine.
Lin Bioa's parent's home.
Lin Biao's grandson, next to a statue of Lin Biao. I politely refrained from explaining to this gentleman what I thought of his grandfather ("The Great Rogue's" henchman) or his monther (who informed the authorities).
I also declined any possible oportunity to have my photographs taken next to this man or the statue.
This man kindly took a photograph of us outside his great-grand-parent's home. I wonder if he knows what his grandfather did.
EVERYWHERE is China has advertisements - including Lin's village.
Perhaps this is the printer Lin Biao would use if he were alive.
The pictures of the rice drying are great. The government builds new concrete roads to the outlying villages. It's part of the infrastructure plan to make every home available to modern transport, improve the economy and make every thing accessable to everyone. What happens??? The farmers use this vital lifeline to the world as a rice drying field. Go for a drive in the countryside during harvest season. Hah! You end up driving a giant slalom around 100 meters of rice. That's bearable. The really bad thing: when they rake in the rice at night, the farmers leave the rocks, boards, carts, which they have used as barricades, on the road. Try avoiding these in the dark.
